Well, I have been getting lots of email about people wondering what a registry cleaner really is? Well in short a registry cleaner is a application which scans your system for corrupt files, obsolete files and invalid entries in the registry aiming at improving the speed and performance of your computer.

So what is the registry? Windows function on the basis of its system registry. The registry contain entries revolving around all the software, hardware and system in all. There are literally hundred of thousands of these kind of entries and sometimes they wound up corrupt. There are several reasons too why this happens but some are more common then others.

  • Failed software removal – When you install and remove any kind of software you usually end up with entries and files in your system which will allocate unnecessary resources.
  • Temporary files – Nearly all software create some kind off temporary files during use. At times these files will not be deleted, taking up unwanted space on the hard drive.
  • Temporary registry entries - Some people estimate that during a days use well of thousand new registry entries are added to the registry, and as many as 40% of them will never be used again. It adds up!

So when you do run your registry cleaner it will run through your file system and registry and locate these error and others too, for today’s software detect allot more then the above stated, they are just the primary errors occurring in your system.

One important thing to keep in mind is that, even though these applications can bring a significant performance boost to your computer they are not fail-safe! Always use a software with a back-up feature. This will save you lots of time when something do go wrong.

So you see, there are many different free registry cleaners on the market today, some free and some that cost, so finding the right one for you might be a bit of a hassle. But when you do go about finding one, keep the above three errors in mind, and check if they can remove them and I can assure you that they will meet your needs.

My suggestion is that you comb through my reviews I have made of some of the available registry cleaners. They will help you understand which one to choose and if not, they will at least help you understand what a registry cleaner is and they do.
